It’s hard to explain the allure of horses to people who don’t feel it, but there’s something about horses. I asked for a pony for my third birthday and finally bought myself a horse a couple of weeks shy of my forty-fifth birthday. Having horses in my life has been a gift; a gift that has taught me more about myself than it has taught me about horses, and that has brought more human friends into my life than it has equines.
It has given me opportunities to travel and to write; for years I have written a column in Horses and People magazine about my experiences with Dante, the horse I ‘accidentally’ bought as a yearling in 2014. I am slowly pulling together those many thousands of words, along with some other stories and articles I have written about horses, into this collection. In many ways, given who I am and what I do, it was inevitable that I would want to write something about horses.
